Ronald Robert Clifford Nikko, 77, of Cromwell, formerly of Columbia, Maryland, died Sunday, January 24, 2016 in St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth.

Ronald was born on November 16, 1938 to Thomas and Sylvia Nikko in Eagle Township, Minnesota. He attended Eagle Lake Grade School and Cromwell High School, graduating in 1956. He attended the University of Minnesota, Duluth; the University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland; and the National Cryptologic School, Annapolis Junction, Maryland. He served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965 with tours of duty in San Antonio and San Angelo, Texas; Misawa, Japan; and Peshawar, Pakistan.

During his lifetime he was employed at various jobs including a clerk at the Farmers Co-op in Cromwell; an aide at the Moose Lake Hospital in Moose Lake; a clerk at the Oberg Pharmacy in Duluth; as the assistant manager of the Norshor Theater in Duluth; and as a cryptanalyst for the Department of Defense, The National Security Agency in Annapolis Junction, Maryland. He also lived and worked for a period of time in Great Britain.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Donald M. Nikko, Walter W. Nikko, Kenneth C. Nikko and Ralph E. Nikko; five sisters, Doris D. Nikko, Marie E. Nikko, Darlene E. Nikko, Evelyn E. Marsyla and Pearl M. Walters.

He is survived by two brothers, Rudolph N. (Karen) Nikko of Proctor and Gordon R. Nikko of Carlton; two sisters, Delores M. Cahoon of Duluth and Marjorie M. Marsyla of Sandstone; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Life from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, February 6, 2016 in Atkins-Northland Funeral Home Fireside Room, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. Military Honors accorded at 5:00 p.m. with the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard. Burial will be in Eagle Lake Cemetery, Cromwell.
