EVA LENORA ALDRICH, WATERVILLE
Waterville. Aug. 4. — The funeral of Mrs. W. Oscar Aldrich, who died on June 18th, was held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. S. Ball, of Waterville, with whom she had resided for many years, on Saturday afternoon, June 20th. There was a large attendance of neighbors, friends and relatives of the deceased. Rev. R. L. Weis, of North Hatley, officiated at the service, assisted by Rev. J.G. Fulcher, of Waterville.
Mrs. Aldrich was born in Veazie, near Bangor, Maine, on June 29, 1852, daughter of Allen Longfellow and his wife Sirrissa (Moore) Longfellow. She came to Quebec in her third year, her father being engaged in the lumber industry in the Townships, the family living in Lennoxville for some time. After her husband's death many years ago, Mrs. Aldrich lived with her sister, Mrs. John Tonkin, and her daughter, Mrs. H. S. Ball, part of the time in the United States and for the past twenty-nine years at Waterville. Mrs. Aldrich had three children, the first two dying in childhood. In speaking of Mrs. Aldrich, Rev. Mr. Weis reminded the friends of her strong character. She was a woman with few interests outside her home, but she was deeply conscientious in ail that she undertook. As a child and young woman she attended services in the Huntingville church and she had been a loyal Universalist by faith throughout her long life. She joined the Huntingville church on February 5, 1886. Besides her sister, Mrs. Tonkin, and her daughter, Mrs. H. S. Ball, Mrs. Aldrich is survived by two grandchildren, John Tonkin and Henry Stuart Ball, Jr. The committal service was held in the Huntingville Cemetery, the bearers being Messrs. Kenneth Hunting, R. F. Findlay, Charles Herring, W. F. Bell, T. H. Rider and H. W. Loomis.
