A.J. graduated from St. Paul's High School and the University of Scranton, where he earned BS and MBA degrees. He went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman aboard the USS Champlain during the Korean War. A leader in the insurance industry spanning five decades, he retired as chief executive officer from the Penn Treaty American Corporation and served on its' Board of Directors after more than twenty years at the firm. He is a past member of the Allentown Raquetball Club and past president of the Abington Sportsman Club.
Survivors: He is survived by two sons, William E. Carden, and wife Jan, Chesterfield, VA, and Thomas P. Carden, Morristown, NJ, and two sisters, Mary Quinn and Sally Erway, 5 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, John A. Carden, a brother, Joseph , and 3 sisters, Ann Fanning, Dorothy Calcagno, and Lillian Bryden.
Services: The funeral will be conducted on Friday, with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 am in Immaculate Conception Church, 801 Taylor Ave., Scranton, Fr. Joseph Sica presiding. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday at the Frank M. Regan Funeral Home, 715 Linden Street, Scranton, from 4-6 pm. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
