Albert D. Novello, 74, of Derry, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016, in Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. He was born July 29, 1941, in Latrobe, a son of the late Siverino "Soup" and Elvira "Olive" (Matteo) Novello. Prior to retirement, Albert worked for the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit, Greensburg, and Vulcan Mold Latrobe. He was a member of the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Derry, Derry Ukrainian Club, Derry Rod and Gun Club, and the Norvelt Senior Golf League. Albert enjoyed hunting, golfing and bowling. Albert is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Karen E. (Gray) Novello; three children, David Novello, of Derry, Andrea Iksic and husband, Bob, of Norvelt, and Angela Novello, of Latrobe; one brother, Ron Novello and wife, Peg, of New Derry; five grandchildren, Logan, Shannon, Allison, Emily and Tyler; and also numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends for Albert's Life Celebration from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016, at the MATTHEW X. MERLIN FUNERAL HOME INC., 529 N. Chestnut St., Derry, PA 724-694-8331. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, in the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Derry, with the Rev. Stephen C. West as celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Blairsville Military Service Group will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
