Herbert H. Batten passed away on January 25, 2016 at Martha Jefferson Hospital. He was born December 1, 1928 in Albemarle County, to the late John and Florence Batten.

Herbert was preceded in death by five brothers, Jack, Vernon, Bolgie, Russel and Fatty; and one sister, Polly.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lilly "Peachie" Batten; one son, Charles; five granddaughters, Samantha (Sam), Florence (Miss Florence), Victoria (Snicks), Amanda (Mandy), and Charley; one grandson, Levy; two great grandchildren, Lep (Doodle), and Kingston, his little man, who were the apple of his eye; one niece, Sandra Fay, and one nephew, Jimmy.

At Herbert's request there will be no family night and no funeral. Herbert believed if people wanted to see him they should have come while he was living, not dead. Anyone who would like to make a donation in Herbert's name can do so at the SPCA in memory of his beloved dog Brooks.
