Mrs. Dorothy McCoy Boney Matthis, lovingly known as Gran or Rennie, age 93 of Wallace, NC, died on January 24, 2016 at Vidant Duplin Hospital in Kenansville, NC. Graveside Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Rockfish Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Wallace, NC conducted by Dr. Phil Gladden.

She is survived by her daughter, Paulette Likens of Wallace, NC, her grandchildren, Eugenia Dawn Cavenaugh and husband Kyle of Wallace, NC, Erika Ronco and husband Eric of Wallace and Morgan Farrior of Wallace, NC, her great grandchildren, Austin Wells of Kenansville, NC, Cody Wells of Wallace, NC and Bailey Cavenaugh of Wallace, NC.

She was born on February 2, 1922 in Duplin County, NC to the late George LaFayette and Alma Herring Boney. She is also predeceased by her brother, George LaFayette Boney, Jr, two sisters, Alma “Rollie” Bullard and Elizabeth Boney, her husband, Paul W. Matthis and her grandson, Danny Likens, II.

Mrs. Dorothy’s favorite pastimes were having 4:00 coffee with her life-long friend, Mrs. Maggie Pearl Crawley, keeping up with sports and political events and reading her TIME magazine. Her top priority was Education and Reading, which she instilled in all her students while teaching at Wallace Elementary School for 20+ years. Her greatest joy was her great grandchildren.
