Mrs. Alma Howard Newman, 70, a resident of near Milford, Kentucky, died at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, April 30, at Harrison Memorial Hospital, in Cynthiana, Kentucky. Death was caused by a heart seizure. Mrs. Newman was born June 6, 1901, the only daughter of the late Charles and Cora Warner Howard. She married Mr. Oakley Newman in 1916. They had lived at one time in Otway, Ohio, but had lived in Bracken County, Kentucky, for the past several years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by: four daughters and four sons, who are Mrs. Lelia Smallwood, of Johnsville, Kentucky, Mrs. Laura Routt, of near Milford; Mrs. Lola Chapman, of Portsmouth, Ohio, Mrs. Lillian Varner, of Middletown, Ohio, Leslie Newman, of the Bluegrass Road, in Bracken County, Lawrence Newman, of near Milford, Lovell Newman, of Louisville, Kentucky, and Lyle Newman, of Otway, Ohio. She also leaves 20 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 2, in the McCarty and Metcalfe Funeral Home, in Brooksville. Bro. Joe Hatchett, pastor of the Milford Christian Church, officiated. Burial was in the Berea Chapel Cemetery, in Otway. In addition, there was a short service in Otway at the Berea Chapel following the Brooksville Service.
