From Accident


Dr. J.C. Walker, 73, of Walkerville, died at his home Friday night. Injuries received in an automobile accident near his home late Tuesday as he was returning home after a call on a patient, resulted in pneumonia Friday morning. The accident occurred when a tire blew out and his car turned over.

Dr. Walker was a native of Columbia county and had lived at Walkerville all his life. He taught school in his early life and then went away to study medicine. He had practiced medicine in his home community more than 30 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason and senior deacon in F. and A.M. Amecca lodge 488 at Walkerville.

Surviving are his wife; six sons: A.B. Walker, Los Angeles, Calif. ; Byrd, Washington, D.C., Walter Hugh and Curtis, Muskogee, Okla.; Elmer, Stillwater, Okla., and George, Shawnee, Okla; two daughters, Mrs. Clarence Seigler and Mrs. Charles Moore, Walkerville; one brother, Warren Walker, Shongaloo one sister, Mrs. B.M. Burns, Emerson.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at Shongaloo, with Rev. J. B. Luck, Magnolia, officiating.

Scores of persons gathered at the Old Shongaloo church Monday, March 27th, to attend the funeral services of Dr. J.E. Walker, 72, beloved reesident of the Walkeville community. Dr. Walker died in his home on March 25 from injuries received in an automobile accident several days before when a blowout caused his car to overturn.

Known and loved by hundreds of persons in Northwest Louisiana and South Arkansas, Dr. Walker was born and reared in the Walkerville community. As a young man he taught school. Later entering medical college he returned to his home and for 37 years practiced his profession in his own and neighboring communities. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and of the Columbia County Medical Society.

In March, 1898, he married Miss Lillie Allison and to this union seven sons and two daughters were born. He is survived by his daughters, Mrs. Charlie Moore and Mrs. Clarence Sigle of Walkerville; his sons, Andy Boyd Walker, Huntington Park, Cal.; Byrd Walker, Washington, D.C.; Walter Hugh Walker, Muskogee, Okla.; Curtis Walker, Broken Bow, Okla.; Elmer Walker, Stillwater, Okla.; George Walker, Shawnee, Okla. He is also survived by a brother, Warren Walker, of Shongaloo, and a sister, Mrs. Ben Burns, of Emerson, Ark., 13 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.B. Luck, of Magnolia, and Dr. C.C. Winters, of McNeil, Ark.
