Benjamin was the son of James Hawkes Lewis and Lydia Pratt of Stoughton, Mass. He was married in Stoughton on 25 April 1793 to Hannah Fisher, the daughter of Nathaniel Fisher and Hannah Baker of Stoughton. Benjamin lived his long life in the part of Stoughton that became Canton in 1797. His death is recorded in the 1860 mortality schedule giving both Waltham and Canton as his death place, but he appears on the 1850 and 1855 censuses in Canton, and likely died in that town. While no burial record has been found, he is undoubtedly buried in this cemetery where his wife has many family members buried with extant grave markers.
