Gene Arthur Greathouse, of Camanche, Iowa, passed away Monday, June 18, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center-North Campus. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, June 22, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Visitation, 1032 Middle Road, Camanche. Msgr. Donald W. Grubisch will be officiating and Father Richard Okumu will be assisting. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 21, 2007, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Lemke Funeral Homes-South, 2600 Lincolnway, Clinton. Pallbearers will be Ed Nolan, Ron Schroeder, Charlie Berdell, Earle Gardert, Jerry House, and Hans Volkers. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery.

Gene was born January 4, 1941, in Clinton, to Virgil and Edith (Luce) Greathouse. His mother Edith passed away when he was 18. His father remarried and his stepmother, Hazel, then became his mom. Gene was a 1959 graduate of Clinton High School.

He married Ruth Kinney on August 19, 1967, at St. Boniface Catholic Church. He was employed with Curtis Company, later with Dairy Pak, and lastly he retired from Ralston Purina where he worked in the warehouse as a fork truck driver.

Gene was a member of the Church of the Visitation and Camanche Bowling Association, and he was a member of The Moose. Gene loved the river, the warm weather, spending time with his family, sitting outside, traveling, and especially the Chicago Cubs.

Gene is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; one son, Shawn Greathouse, of Clinton; one daughter, Shannan (David) Molin, of Camanche; two grandsons, Tyler Greathouse and Johnathan Molin; five granddaughters, Mary, Anna, Laurel, Noel and Victoria Molin; four sisters, Carmeletea (Tom) Rutherford, of Bennett, Iowa, Donna (Steve) Bentley, of Clinton, Gina Greathouse, of Des Moines, and Myra (Marc) Rhodes, of Clinton; one sister-in-law, Nancy Myers, of Tipton; and many loved nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, his two mothers, Edith and Hazel, two brothers, Gary and Ronnie, and one sister, Mary Ellen. Memorials can be made to the family.
