FRED R. HERD

Fred R. Herd, 97, of Oskaloosa, KS formerly of Ozark County, passed away on January 24, 2016 at the Hickory Pointe Care Center in Oskaloosa, KS. He was born on January 9, 1919 in Ocie, MO son of John Austin and Mary Lillie (Futrell) Herd.

On July 1, 1939 Fred was united in marriage to Vada Cole in Ocie, MO. To this union three sons were born. Fred worked most his life on the farm and in construction. When his boys got old enough they helped take care of the farm which allowed Fred to work construction away from home.

Fred is survived by one son Bobby Herd and wife Peggy of Kansas City, KS; five grandchildren Mitch Herd of Kansas City, KS, Keith Herd of Pontiac, MO, Theresa Hall of Alabama, Matt Herd and Greg Herd both of Topeka, KS; and several great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Austin and Mary Herd; his wife Vada Herd; two sons Thomas Dean Herd and Don Herd; and fourteen siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 28, 2016 in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home chapel, Gainesville, MO with Jimmy Kyle officiating. Visitation will be Thursday morning from 9 a.m. to service time. Burial will be in the Lutie Cemetery.
