Robert W. Adams, a 20 year resident of Marin County, died suddenly yesterday in San Francisco of a heart attack. He was 57.

He had been a member of the Tamalpais Union High School board of trustees for several years and had served as its president. He was also a member of the Marin County Council of Boy Scouts and formerly was a member of the board of directors of the Marin Community Chest.

Surviving Adams are his wife Mrs. Gertrude Graham Adams; 2 daughters, Mrs. Richard M. Sims Jr., Novato; and Mrs. Kenneth Burrows, of Mill Valley; and one son, James G. Adams of Woodland.

A native of San Francisco, Adams served for 24 years as sales manager of Don Lee Motors in San Francisco, and was sales manager of the Carlson Buick Company in San Francisco at the time of his death. He was a past president of the automobile sales managers association of San Francisco.

During World War II, Adams served as employee relations manager of Marinship at Sausalito. He was also a member of the San Francisco Press Club.

Willard Van Dyke, superintendent of the Tamalpais High School district said, "Mr. Adams was a very valuable member of the school board. He contributed greatly to the operation of the school plant. His thoughts and ideas have been very helpful in developing plans for the new Sir Francis Drake school. We feel his loss greatly."

Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in San Rafael under the direction of Keaton's Mortuary. Interment will be in Mt. Tamalpais Mausoleum.
