Betty J. Tankersley, 93, of Toledo, Ohio, formerly of Iowa and Genoa, Ohio, died January 19, 2016, at her granddaughter's home in Worthington, Iowa. She was born November 8, 1922, in Peru, Nebraska, to John W. and Olive L. (Tobler) Able. Her first husband, George D. Cox, preceded her in death July 28, 1944, in Italy while serving during WWII. They were married in 1942. She then married Ray A. Tankersley, Jr. May 22, 1947, in Dunbar, Nebraska, and he preceded her in death April 6, 1984. Betty was a member of Genoa Christian Church, where she had served as Elder and Chairman of the Board. She also volunteered at church as well as in the community, assisting with the former THEOS Chapter of Genoa and the Ottawa County hospice program. She also volunteered at hospitals while living in Washington, D.C. Betty moved from Genoa in 1995 to live in Burlington, Iowa, and eventually came to Toledo. Betty is survived by her daughter Linda (Doug) M. Jackson, nine grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and sister, Lucille Schaefer. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, daughters, Carol L. Ingram and Deanna J. Hawes, infant great grandchild, granddaughter, Tammy Kocsis, sisters, Charlotte Sayer, Ruth Rawson, Louise Able, and Mildred Groff, and brothers, Wesley, Ernest, Virgil and Frank Able. Visitation will be held January 30, 2016 from 10 a.m. until the service at 12 p.m. in the Robinson Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa, Ohio. Interment will take place in Clay Township Cemetery, Genoa. Memorials for Betty may be given to Genoa Christian Church, 415 Main St., Genoa, OH 43430.
