Born October 3, 1911 in Grampian, she was the daughter of Richard and Myrtle (Norris) Farwell.
Nellie was employed by Merck Pharmaceuticals in New Jersey and then at the former Curwensville Hosiery Mill. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing and home improvement projects. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, long distance walking and community volunteering.
In 1939 she wed Cloyd Shannon Witherite who preceded her in death in 1987. She was also preceded in death by her son Richard L. “Mubby” Witherite, her parents, five brothers William, James, Robert, Donald, and Lee and two sisters Helen Wall and her husband Bartow and Dalney Spencer and her husband Darrell.
She was the last member of her generation.
Surviving is her daughter-in-law Carol (Smith) Witherite of Curwensville, three grandchildren Rickey Witherite and wife Kathy, Lori Bilger and husband Jeff both of Curwensville and Rodney Witherite of Milton. Also surviving are five great grandchildren Bradley Witherite and wife Jodie, Kellie Jo Johnston and husband Max, Shannon Siple and husband Corey, Ryan Bilger and wife Lindsey, and Coleman Witherite and eight great great grandchildren.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Witherite will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on Wednesday January 13, 2016 at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Earle Farwell officiating.
Interment will follow in the Friends Cemetery of Grampian.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday January 12 from 4 to 8 PM, and again on Wednesday from 10 AM until time of services at 11 AM.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Patient Activity Fund of Ridgeview Elder Care 30 Fourth Avenue Curwensville, PA 16833.
