Douglas Dale Stockstill, of Picayune, Mississippi died peacefully at home January 17, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph Henry and Byrdie Estelle Stockstill of Picayune; sisters, Sue Stockstill Albritton, Bonnie Jean Stockstill and Reba Clair Stockstill. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Thelma Louise "Pinky" Stockstill.
Mr. Stockstill was born in Picayune December 3, 1935. In 1955, Dale and Pinky were married and moved to New Orleans where Dale was employed with Texaco. Mr. Stockstill worked for Texaco for more than twenty years in the Division engineering and surveying office. While with Texaco, he and a colleague formed Southern Engineering as an independent venture. In 1979, Mr. Stockstill founded Dale Stockstill and Associates Civil Engineers. The firm built an outstanding reputation for excellence and service in the oil and gas, pipeline, and electric transmission industries. The company worked in South Louisiana, Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi for companies including Shell, Texaco, South Mississippi Electric Power Association, Chevron, United Gas Pipeline Company, Koch, and Boardwalk Pipeline. In 1998, he retired from the business he loved.
Mr. Stockstill was a member of the Picayune Kiwanis Club and as a volunteer hosted or co-hosted numerous Special Olympics fundraising events by cooking with his buddies for the benefit of the charity.
Anyone who knew Dale could quickly attest to his passion for life. He regaled his family and friends with stories about those early days in the oil industry in south Louisiana, and his many hunting and fishing trips to Alaska, Texas, Montana and Mexico. He loved cooking, traveling and the outdoors and loved his family and friends most of all. He was a master craftsman building furniture from scratch in his shop for the enjoyment of his family and friends.
Mr. Stockstill is survived by his sister, Pat Grice of Picayune; his two daughters, Kandy Stockstill Sims (Joseph Kirkland) of Jackson, Mississippi, and Susan Stockstill Toler, of New Orleans. He was a loving grandfather to Jonathan Mark Toler (Kristen) of Picayune, Joseph Kirkland Sims, Jr. (Caroline) of Jackson, Mary Katherine Sims Whelan, (Joshua Patrick) of Oxford, and Claire Douglas Sims of Oxford. His great grandchildren are: James Emerson Toler, John Patrick Whelan, Mamie Myer Whelan, and Evelyn Gayle Sims.
The family wants to express our sincere appreciation to Dr. Roberto Lopez and Cindy Stockstill for their loving care over the past few years. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice . A private family graveside service will be held on January 20th, followed by a visitation at the home of the family from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm.
