Robert L. Allen, 69, of Moline, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, in Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.
Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church, Moline, with The Rev. Mark Gehrke officiating. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline, where Trio Lodge 57, AF and AM, Rock Island, will conduct Masonic funeral services at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be made to the church.
Robert Lynn Allen was born Sept. 28, 1929 (error see below and photo of headstone), in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Lynn and Myrtle (Forsyth) Allen. He married Vera Dopler on Aug. 4, 1951, in Rock Island. He was employed for 38 years by John Deere, retiring in 1988 from the Casting Services Department of Deere and Company. Since retirement, he had worked part-time at Bloomfield Foundry, Bloomfield, Iowa.
He was a long-time member of Faith Lutheran Church and its Voices of Faith choir, a 40-year member of American Foundrymans Society, and a member of Trio Lodge 57, AF and AM, Rock Island, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Moline, and Kay Dees Circle of Kings' Daughters and Sons. He loved his family and grandchildren, and enjoyed boating and music.
He is survived by his wife, Vera; daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and David Hintz of Germantown, Wis., and Robin and John Wigant of Thompsons Stations, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Justin and Chad Hintz and Todd and Alyshia Wigant; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Kay Allen of Coal Valley; a nephew and his wife, Trevor and Regina Allen of Stittville, N.Y.; and a niece, Paige Allen of Anchorage, Alaska.
