David Samuel Johnson, 80-year-old resident of Fortuna, died Tuesday morning in a Eureka rest home following an extended illness. He was born May 26, 1878, in Monroe, Utah, and had been a resident of Fortuna for over 25 years. Until his retirement about 15 years ago, he had been employed in the freight-hauling industry and had operated the Johnson Feed Store in Fortuna for several years. He was a member of the Fortuna Townsend club and the Latter-Day Saints Church in Utah.

He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Rilda Robinson of Lower Lake; two step-daughters, Mrs. Lillian Lentz and Mrs. Ethel O'Neil, both of Fortuna; and numerous nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren.

Latter-Day Saint service will be conducted at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Goble's Fortuna Mortuary. Private interment will follow in the family plot of the Rohnerville IOOF cemetery.

David married Carrie (Frembd) Gormley some time after the death of her first husband, Charles, in 1938. Carrie and David Johnson were living at 1254 L Street in Fortuna in 1940.
