Bernita Ann (Weires) Anderson passed away on Sunday, January 17th at Hospice of North Iowa, surrounded by her family. She was born on August 7, 1926, in Allison, Iowa. Bernita graduated from Allison High School and attended Hamilton Business School.
Bernita married Graydon ‘Hunk’ Anderson in September 18, 1949 and together raised three sons: Tom, Paul, and Jim, on their farm west of Greene.
Bernita was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greene where she was involved in the Women’s Club and became the first female Elder. Despite her many contributions to the church and community, ‘Mimi’ as she was known to many, was best known for her skills in the kitchen. Anyone who visited the Anderson farm was greeted with a warm cup of coffee and endless chocolate chip cookies and chocolate cake.
Her family will remember her kind heart, selflessness, and love for family.
Bernita is survived by her three sons: Tom (Dixie), Greene; Paul (Terri), Rockwell; Jim (Doreen), Mason City; 7 grandchildren: James (Michelle), Luke, Nick, Katie, Stefanie, Rob (Lauren), and Ellie; 2 great-grandchildren: Thomas and Aeryn.
She was preceded in death by her husband Hunk Anderson; 2 sisters: Ferol Harms and Javotte Codner; her parents, Bernard and Flora Weires.
Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to Hospice of North Iowa.
