Alvera L. Colclasure, 103, of Aledo, died Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at the Mercer County Nursing Home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. prior to services. Service participants include Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 126, and the Rev. John Crede. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Casketbearers will be J.C. Colclasure, John Longley, John Swearingen, Larry, Sam and Tony Schaumleffel. Memorials may be made to the Mercer County Nursing Home or Aledo United Methodist Church.

Alvera was born May 27, 1903, in Ohio Grove Township, Mercer County, to Walter E. and Mead Johnson Nelson. She married Lester L. Colclasure July 9, 1928, in Aledo. He preceded her in death Nov. 2, 1977.

Alvera was a clerk with Ben Franklin for 25 years, retiring in 1965. In earlier years, she taught in rural country schools in Mercer County. Alvera loved to spend time in the kitchen cooking. In September 2005, she was honored in the Sesquicentennial Parade as the oldest living resident of Aledo.

Alvera was a member of Aledo United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, the Mercer County Hospital Auxiliary, a 77-year member of the Aledo Chapter No. 126, Order of the Eastern Star, and a former member of Fallerans Post No. 121, American Legion Auxiliary.

Alvera is survived by many nieces and nephews, including Charleen Burke, Pelham, N.C., Karen Colclasure, California, Mary Ella Colclasure, Monmouth, John and Carol Longley and Susan and Louis Sutton, all of Aledo, Ann and Herbert Silva, Chesterfield, Mo., Charles and Paul Burke, Pelham, Tom Colclasure, Maryland, Mark Colclasure, Roseville, J.C. Colclasure, Monmouth, Charleen Burt, Colorado, Delpha McAloon, Sheboygan, Wis., Kathy Bergin, Cable, Wis., Carrie Colclasure, Oak Park, Ill.; cousins, Martha Larson, Indianapolis, and Marjorie Schaumleffel, Monmouth, and her sons and their spouses, Larry and Marjorie, Woodstock, Ga., Tony and Chris, Countryside, Ill., and Sam and Bridgit, Spring Valley, Ill. She was preceded in death by her husband and nieces and nephews, William and Shirley Longley, Charles Colclasure, Vinton Colclasure and L. Paul Burke.
