In 1836, Stephen Toney and his brother in law, George McCoy arrived and settled in what is now known as Rochester, Cedar county, Iowa. It is known that other family members followed, as Stephen's nephews are buried at Rochester cemetery. It was highly suspected that his father, Jesse Toney Sr, came to Cedar county as well.
