Mart Long was married to Mable(Harris) Long 7Aug. 1926 In Newton co. MO. His parents were Geo.and Martha Long. His Grand father was Andrew Long. He could play the fiddle the best you ever did hear! The whole family could sing, dance and play music. He worked many years as a blacksmith in Granby and in Neosho. He was a tall man but thin. He was white haired since he was 21yrs old.Eyes were blue and "twinkled" especially when he laughed. He was kind to all never a harsh word to anyone, and he kept his word. He was loved by many people. One day, Porter Wagner the country singer came by and heard them singing and playing, he asked if they would come to Nashville to the old Opry house to sing and play, Mart said "no". He didn't want the girls to get a big head, and It would spoil them" The story is, They never went to Nashville, but they sure did have a good time at home, As they continued to play and sing.
