Abigail Catherine Sweetland was the daughter of Henry S. Sweetland and Amanda H Thomas, born in Rockland, Maine in December of 1873. "Abbie or Kate", as she was known, graduated from South Thomaston High School in the Class of 1891. Kate married Edgar Perry Guptill on 19 Oct 1893, together they would have 4 children before her death in 1904 at 30 years, 5 months from complications of a miscarriage. Kate was predeceased by a daughter, Pauline, aged 14 months in 1897. Abbie was survived by her husband Edgar and three children; Maude age 9, John age 5 and Albert age 3.
