Lowell Edson Bruner 89, of Queen City passed away in the Schuyler County Nursing Home Thursday night (January 14, 2016).

Lowell was born Feb 12, 1926 in rural Schuyler County, Missouri to James Lacy Bruner and Flora G. (Williams) Bruner. He was inducted into the United States Army when he turned 18. Following basic training, he returned home in time to graduate from the Lancaster High School with the class of 1944. While serving in the Army, he was honored to meet General Douglas MacArthur. He was honorably discharged October 17, 1946.

Upon discharge from the Army, Lowell returned home to Schuyler County where he farmed in rural Glenwood. In addition to farming, he worked for Wilson's Produce in Queen City for several years. In 2002, Lowell moved to Queen City and enjoyed visits & coffee with friends. He became a resident of Schuyler County Nursing Home in 2015.

Survivors include a sister, Coleen Shaw of Gallipolis, OH; nephews, David Bruner & wife Kristi of Kirksville, MO, Larry Bruner & wife Evanne of Virginia Beach, VA, Darrel Engle & wife Lena of Kirksville, MO, Eddie Engle & wife Vicki of Clarence, MO, and Dennis Engle & wife Joyce of Queen City, MO; nieces, are Sandra Graham & husband Clarence of Macon, MO, Cheryl Boehme & husband Brian of Clayton, NC, Janet Reed & husband Jeff of Gallipolis, OH; as well as several great-nephews, great-nieces and good friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Lawrence Bruner and Kenneth Bruner, one sister Pauline Engle, a nephew Donald Bruner, and a good friend Lloyd Bushnell.

Lowell was baptized in February 2011 by George Bradburn and became a member of the Queen City Christian Church.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday (January 18, 2016) in the Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor George Bradburn officiating. Burial will be in the Queen City Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Schuyler County American Legion Post #784.

Pallbearers will be Larry Bruner, David Bruner, Adam Bruner, Drew Bruner, Craig Berryman, Gilbert Schmitter, and Curtis Sidwell. Honorary Bearers will be Buddy Cass, Terry Dufur, Cliff Snider and Johnnie Lay.

Public visitation will be after noon Sunday, January 17, 2016 at Dooley Funeral Home with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. to receive family and friends.
