JOHNSON, Mrs. Pauline Mae Kalamazoo, MI Age 92,
died Friday, September 8, 2006 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence.

She was born January 19, 1914 on her father's Birthday in Otsego, Michigan, to Alba H. and Merlie (Hawk) Derhammer.

Pauline graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School and attended Western Michigan University.

On September 20, 1936 she married Forrest Curtis Johnson who preceded her in death on November 29, 1981 after 45 years of marriage.

Surviving are her three children: Evyda (David) Jackson, Portage, Marilyn (John) Edwards, Battle Creek; and Wayne (Jeanette) Johnson, Portage: six grandchildren Michelle Jackson-Long & Todd Jackson, Greg & Paul Edwards, and Stacia Schaeffer & Neil Johnson, five great grandchildren, her brother Dana Harris (Florence) Derhammer, one nephew, one niece, and two cousins in Indiana.

She was an active member of First Baptist Church for 88 years, where she served as Sunday School Teacher, choir member, deacon, and faithful member of the Mar-O-Nots Sunday school class. Over the years she participated in many organizations including: Child Guidance, Ladies Library Association, Red Cross, Garden Club, Bronson Methodist Auxiliary, Kalamazoo Art Center, and Scout Leader. She enjoyed golf, tennis, traveling, ceramics, dancing (both square and round), sewing, crocheting, tailoring, millinery, and cruel. Pauline had a passion for playing Bridge, where she enjoyed a fellowship of close friends and won countless tournaments, many times with Irene Hamilton (her special friend of 70 years) as partner. Pauline was a fixture at her children's and grandchildren's extracurricular activities where she seldom missed a game, a play, a musical event or other opportunity to support their many interests.

Private graveside services will be held in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. A Memorial Celebration of Pauline's life will be held at the First Baptist Church, 315 W. Michigan Ave. on Saturday, September 16 at 11 o'clock. Friends may meet the family from 10-11am at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church T.V. Ministry Fund or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
