Merlin R. Haase was 85, when he passed away to a better life, Saturday, September 9, 2006 at the farm where he was born in Borth, following a month long battle with cancer.

Merlin was born on June 17, 1921, the son of Albert and Hattie (Kriesel) Haase. On May 27, 1950 he married Evelyn Posorske and they have spent their entire married lifetime on the family's Century farm. After his love for family, Merlin dedicated his life to farming and animal husbandry. His other interests include nature, wood carving, music, hunting, trapping, traveling, and even piloting an airplane. Merlin was a life long learner, was admired for his adaptability to innovations, and his creative ingenuity. He entertained many with his quick wit and story telling ability.

Survivors include Evelyn, his wife of 56 years; daughters, Ruth Haase, of Delavan, Judy (Will) Kasuboski, Brenda (Jeff) Baxter, both of Berlin; daughter-in-law, Sue Haase, of Borth; grandchildren, Kevin (Heather) Haase, Ryan Haase, Chris Haase, Laura Kasuboski, Andy Kasuboski, Claire Kasuboski, Jeremy Baxter, and Jason Baxter; great-grandchildren, Lilly Haase, and Kolby Haase; sisters, Donna (Melvin) Albright, of Berlin; Luella (Ray) Remmel, Ina Mae (Gaylord) Remmel, all of Oshkosh.

He was preceded in death by his sons, John in 1987, and Jim in 2005; his parents; and brother, Robert.

Funeral Services were held on Thursday, September 14, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Borth United Methodist Church, where he was a life long member, with the Rev. George Groves and Rev. Daniel Doan officiating. Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 13 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home, Winneconne, and continued at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. He was buried near his son, John, in the Borth Cemetery, of which he was a caretaker for many years.
