Mrs. VIOLA MARY SMITH, widow of George Washington Smith, died Friday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Leonard M. Markle, 131 S. Jefferson St. She was born in Frederick County on July 5, 1896, the daughter of the late Simeon W. and Mahala Griffith Hargett.

She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a member of the Ladies Bible Class No. 55 of the church.

Surviving her are two daughters, Mrs. Leonard M. Markle, Frederick; and Mrs. Eugene Graham, Wrightsville, Pa.; and one brother, Conrad Hargett, Ijamsville; 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the M.R. Etchison and Son funeral home; interment was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
