Funeral service for HARLEY RAY MOORE, 79, Tipton, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006, at the Tipton Church of Christ with Joe Waugh, Tipton Home, and Mike Suiter, Tipton Church of Christ, officiating.
Mr. Moore died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006, in the Veterans Hospital in Oklahoma City. Burial will be in the Tipton Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Tipton Funeral Home.
He was born on Jan. 26, 1927, to Young Howard and Lou Ann (January) Moore in Humphreys, Okla. He grew up and attended school in Tipton. He joined the United States Army on June 5, 1946, and served at the conclusion of WWII, where he received the World War II Victory Medal. He returned to Oklahoma and graduated from Cameron College. He was re-activated from the Reserve for the Korean Conflict, where he received the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Camp Star. He was honorably discharged as a corporal on March 23, 1951.
He married Dora Ann "Dodie" Thompson on January 21, 1949, in Henrietta, Texas. He was a sales representative for Midcontinent Oil Co. and lived in Liberal, Kan., Perryton, Texas and Seminole, Okla., with that company from 1951 until 1966. He then worked for Southland Paint Company and Superior Oil Company. He raised his family in Gainesville, Texas, and then moved back to Oklahoma, where he lived in Kingfisher before retiring to Tipton. At Tipton, he drove the Tipton Home truck collecting supplies for the Tipton Home. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, and was soon to receive his 50-year award.
He is survived by three daughters, Linda Shuppert, Harla Moore and Tandi Marshall, all of Gainesville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Mace and Margie Moore of Blanchard, and Pete and Betty Moore of Burleson, Texas; two sisters, Florence Delony of Houston and Juanita Tucker of Tipton; five grandchildren, A.J., Maci, Lenzi Marshall, Josh Shuppert and Madisen Thomas; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three sisters, Wintobeth Moore, Lillye Anderson, Jimmie Lou Nolan, and a brother, Howard "Junior" Moore.
