Wilson was a member of Company G, 91st Indiana Infantry.

Was the son of William and Mary Jane (Jones) Barton and was born around 1841 in Posey County, Indiana. Wilson had a older sister Louisa and a younger brother Samuel. On September 26, 1867 he married Nancy Aldridge Venable in Posey County. The couple had one son: William B. Barton. Nancy died around 1875 and Wilson married next Sarah Moore. He and Sarah had six children: Alvin, Paulina, Nealy Ann, Angeloe, Cora and Essie. Wilson was a farmer and established his homestead in Robinson Township, Posey County, Indiana. He died on November 13, 1886 and evidence points to his being buried in the Samuel Jones Cemetery. His second wife Sarah later married John Cox in 1889 but divorced him. She died in August of 1934 and is interred in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Posey County.
