Dr. John F. Hay was the son of Dr. William Hay of Errol, Scotland (& later Wakefield, Mass.) and Abigail Boutwell of Reading/Wakefield, MA. He studied medicine and was known as a doctor who preferred natural remedies. He was a fellow of the Mass. Medical Society, and wrote an article about hemophilia which was published in the Mass. Medical & Physical Journal (now known as the New England Medical Journal) in 1813. He was a loving husband and father by all accounts.
