George Gilbert Gibons attended West Point and was an attorney, like his father, John S. Gibons, of Allentown, Pennsylvania.

George married Helen "Nellie" Fisher and they had a son named John Smith Gibons, who married Mary Keziah Smiley Nichols in 1913 in Billings, Montana (they divorced in Pueblo, CO in 1923) and a daughter named Darlene Gibons who married Henry Veeder in Chicago, Illinois in 1892.

George's son, John Smith Gibons, was also an attorney. He practiced law in Denver, Colorado after getting his Bachelor of Law degree from Northwestern University in 1885.
