Howard Dean Burgess, Jr., son of Howard and Ethel (Beck) Burgess, was born May 8, 1936 in Littleport, Iowa. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1959 to 1962.

Howie made his home for many years in Sioux Falls, SD where he operated an electronic repair business.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, where he served on the stewardship committee. He was a former member of Memorial Lutheran Church, also in Sioux Falls.

In earlier years, Howie had his own band that played throughout the area.

He was a member of the Sioux Falls Disabled American Veterans.

Howie had made his home in Lake Norden, SD since 1999 and had very recently moved to Yankton, SD

Survivors include several foster children and friends.
