Mr. Anthony 'Tony' Joseph DeRitis

89, of Charlotte, died Monday, July 9, 2001 at Lake Park nursing and Rehab Center in Indian Trail, NC.

Mr. DeRitis was born April 3, 1912 in Philadelphia, PA, son of the late Anthony P. DeRitis and Maria Vitelli DeRitis, the only son to Anthony and Maria and the only brother to eleven sisters. Mr DeRitis moved to Charlotte in 1965. He was a member of Incarnation Lutheran Church, and owned and operated Tony's Italian Restaurant from 1973 to 1981. Mr. DeRitis was a member of Eastgate Masonic Lodge, 32-Degree Mason, and Scottish Rite. He was also a member of Oasis Shrine, and a Past President of Belmont Fraternal Order of Moose.

A service to commemorate his life will be 11 AM Wednesday, July 11, 2001 at McEwen Funeral Service Charlotte Chapel, officiated by The Reverend Mark Wilhelm. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memory Garden Mausoleum.

Survivors include three daughters, Maria C. DeRitis and Mrs. Lawrence (Pat) Bank, both of Charlotte, and Mrs. John (Margie) Knox of Columbia, SC; one sister, Mary Rommel, of Chatham, NY; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Rita Myers DeRitis, and his only son, Michael Anthony DeRitis.

Memorials may be made to Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 East 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.

Arrangements made by McEwen Funeral and Cremation Service Charlotte Chapel.

NOTES:

1) He is listed as Domenic on the 1920 and 1930 U.S. Censuses as well as his father's naturalization application (which also lists his birthday as April 3 1912). He is listed as Domenick of Richmond, VA in his father's death notice.

2) Also, the sibling count above is a bit off (or incomplete), according to my research. To date, I've found 6 full sisters, 2 half sisters, and 2 half brothers. At the time of his death, his full sister, Mary Rommel, was in fact still alive, as were his two half brothers.
