William R and Betty J Ammons
William R. Ammons, Sr., 82, Army veteran and retired Wichita Police Officer and Betty Jo (Jodie) Ammons, 78, retired Wesley Hospital patient counselor, died within hours of one another on January 2, 2016, after nearly 60 years of marriage. Though they will be sorely missed, we rejoice that they are together with the Lord they loved, knowing that "precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints" (Psalm 116:15). They are survived by three children and their spouses: Donna and Mike Wellemeyer, Darla and Wesley DeSpain, and William, Jr. and Carrie Ammons, 10 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren, and two more due this year. Betty Jo is also survived by her precious sister, Gladys Denton, of Mena, AR. Services will be held at Resthaven in Wichita on Friday, January 8, at 1:00pm. Viewing will be from 5:00-9:00pm on Thursday, January 7. The family thanks all who offered encouragement, love, and caring; they request donations to the Wichita Police Benefit Fund in lieu of flowers.
