Frank P. Mirise, Jr.
Services for Frank P. Mirise Jr., 2710 N. Union Blvd., will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Swan Funeral home. Members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 101 will conduct the rites, followed by burial in Evergreen cemetery with military honors. Mr. Mirise, 85, died Monday in a local nursing home. He was a retired meat packer for Swing and Co. He was born Aug. 1, 1890, in Concordia, Kan., and had lived here since 1892. He served as a corporal in Co. C. 113th Firld Signal Battalion, during World War I, with duty in France. He enlisted in Colorado Springs May 23, 1918, and was discharged at Ft. D.A. Russell in Wyoming on May 21, 1919. He was one of the charter members of VFW Post 101, served as commander, national commander and department commander, having organized the latter position. He was commander of Wyoming and Colorado. Mr. Mirise also was a heavy weight fighter. He is survived by a brother, John Mirise of Brooks, Calif,; two nephews, Kenneth Mirise, Colorado Springs, and Edward Mirise of Brooks; two nieces, Mrs. Lee Jackson of Colorado Springs and Mrs. John Hines of Denver, and several cousins. Mr. Mirise's wife died in 1971.
