Ruby was born in Clay County to the late Honea Alfred and Ethel Jane Cunningham Yates. Along with her family, she moved to Haywood County as a young girl and made it her home.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Bobby Miller, Gerald Wood and Weldon “Bud” Brooks, who died in 2007; son, Jeffrey Yates Brooks; and two brothers, Paul Kenneth and Jerry Douglas Yates.
Ruby was a wonderful person who treated everyone with love and took great joy in making people laugh. Her family, especially her grandchildren and great-granddaughter, were the loves of her life. Ruby was a terrific gardener and enjoyed sharing her bountiful harvest with many. She was the manager of the Canton Cato store for 18 years and was consistently recognized, year after year, for being tops in sales and loss prevention. Ruby was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
