Served in Capt. Edmund Tipton's Regiment of the PA. Militia, War of 1812, from 20 April 1813 to 24 Jun 1813, afterward enlisted in the Regular Army and was wounded in the left arm in battle. Married Elizabeth Mathias 23 Nov 1809 at Tuckahoe (Bellwood), now Blair Co., Pa. Father of Henry Jr., Catherine Emigh, Hannah Bussler, Rachel Ralston and Sarah Miller.

According to widow's pension he died 20 Dec 1824, although date on tombstone states 8 Nov 1825. Since the tombstone was erected at his widow's death in 1872, the 1824 date is probably correct. Actual burial in Walters Graveyard, Blair Twp., but a cenotaph was erected in Carson Valley Cemetery, by his grandson, Albert Sanders.

Tombstone photos kindly provided by Ellis Michaels and cemetery photo by Vickie Beach. Used with permission.
