U.S. Veteran Robert G Vandemark 85, of Elyria, passed away peacefully at his home January 2, 2016, after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born December 19, 1930 in Lodi Ohio and was a 1948 graduate from Lodi High school.
Bob was a United States Air Force veteran, serving as a staff sergeant in the Korean War. After serving his country, he made Elyria his home in 1958. He pursued his career as a Barber and for 50 years, owned and operated the Graystone Barber Shop in downtown Elyria. Those who knew him best would agree his favorite times were those spent on the golf course. For 32 years, he was a member of the Oberlin Golf Club. In 2015 alone, he played 193 rounds and over a span of 50+ years, has accomplished 5 hole-in-ones. He enjoyed spending time with his family and after retiring, he and Marilyn spent the winters in Sebring, Florida with his brother and sister-in-law.
Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marilyn (nee Wagner) Vandemark; daughter: Kathy (Terry) Korzan; son: Jim (Tricia) Vandemark; grandchildren: Robert (Tina) Vandemark, Neil Korzan, Kaitlin (Michael Quigley) Vandemark and Jared Korzan, great granddaughters Mia, Lexi and Tessa and a brother Donald (Susan) Vandemark.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Neil and Evelyn Vandemark.
Friends will be received Sunday, January 10, 2016 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, at Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave. Elyria.
A private service will be Monday, January 11, 2016 in the funeral home with Reverend Stacy Terrell officiating. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Foundation of Lorain County; the Vandemark Family Fund, 9080 Leavitt Rd., Elyria, OH 44035.
