DEATH OF AN OLD SETTLER.
"John Abel, a well-known and respected citien of Ravenna, died at the residence of his son-in-law, William H. Lepper, Thursday morning March 15 in the 78th year of his age. Mr. Abel was born in Rensellaerville, Albany, NY on September 18, 1805. With his parents, John Abel, Sr. and Mary Luce Abel, he came to Ravenna in 1816. On December 27, 1829, he was united in marriage with Lucy Moulton, daughter of the late Honorable Jeremiah Moulton, who survives him. Four children, three sons and one daughter, were the fruit of this union, only two of whom are now living, Sluman W. Abel and Lucy A., wife of William H. Lepper. Mr. Abel had been a resident of Ravenna from the time that he came to live here in 1816 until his death, except for a period of four years when he lived in Brimfield. He was a faithful, upright, and intelligent citizen, unassuming in his manners, and a life-long Democrat of the Jeffersonian school. He leaves four generations and hosts of acquaintances and friends to mourn his death."

NOTE: Abel family researcher, H. Thompson "Tom" Stock, states: "At John's grave there are five stones, John and Lucy Moulton Abel, Lury Abel Lepper, her husband and young daughter."
