UNION - Thomas Wallace Austin, 86, of 102 Mabry Ave. died Oct. 26, 1998, in Wallace Thomson Hospital after an extended illness.
A native of Union County, he was the widower of Pauline Mitchell Austin and son of the late Thomas Jefferson Austin and Isabelle Wix Austin. He was a member and former deacon of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church, where he was an usher and a former pre-school Sunday school teacher. He also was a member of the Woodman of the World. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was retired from Milliken Co., Excelsior Plant.
Surviving are a daughter, Brenda A. Going of the home; two granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mon-Aetna Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Benny Green, Dr. Joe Bridges and Charles Hughes. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
The family is at the home.
