Virginia Gayle Barker Mallon was born on November 18, 1924 in Warsaw, Illinois to Richard and Kathryn (Scheffel) Barker.

She lived in Warsaw, Illinois until her marriage to Norwood (Woody) Mallon on April 3, 1943.

They raised their family in Keokuk, Iowa, relocated to Chicago, Illinois and retired in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 2012, Virginia moved to Slater, Iowa, later residing at Ballard Creek in Huxley, Iowa prior to her move to the Madrid Home.

Virginia found the big cities exciting. She enjoyed working in downtown Chicago and showing her grandchildren the beautiful store windows during Christmas. It was here where she became a loyal CUBS fan. Once settled in Las Vegas, her family made many trips to visit and to “win their fortunes".

Virginia passed away at 91 years of age on December 30, 2015 at the Madrid Home.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Woody, in 2001.

She is survived by her children, James (Barbara) Mallon of Slater and Janice Mallon Blackburn of Kirkland, Wash., as well as grandchildren, Allison (Mike) McBride, Brady (Jennifer) Mallon, Casey (Stacie) Mallon, Scott (Kim) Blackburn, Danielle Blackburn, and Bill (Anne) Blackburn and 12 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Madrid Home or to the Ames Animal Shelter, Ames, Iowa.
