She was born December 15, 1926, in Defiance, Ohio, the daughter of George and Ida (Witzerman) Coonrod.
She worked for a short time at Michigan Bell Telephone Company before she devoted her life to being a wife and mother. Val was a kind and loving person. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and painting. SHE LOVED HER CATS. She is now in heaven reunited with all of her brothers and sisters and parents and cats.
She is survived by her husband, John Howard Moody of Defiance; her daughters, Laura (Les) Shimmell of Florida, Rose Marie Meils of Wisconsin; and her son, David (Reina) Moody of North Carolina.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Cassandra, Marc, Connie, Jimmy, Jacob, Dave, Ryan and Shawn. She also leaves behind numerous great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were a son, James (Shirley) Moody; four brothers, Delbert, Robert, Dan and Floyd Coonrod; and two sisters, Hope Coonrod and Barka Shriner.
Visitation will be on Thursday, July 5, 2012, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at HanenkrathClevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance. Services will follow at 1 p.m., with Rev. David Brobston officiating.
Burial will be at Boynton Cemetery in Stryker Ohio.
Preferred memorial is to the Alzheimer’s foundation.
