Death of Leopold Friedman
To day we paid the last tribute of respect to one of our esteemed citizens. Last Sunday as the morning light was breaking; the spirit of Leopold Friedman left the clay tenement and took its flight to the abode of the blessed.
One week from last Saturday, he experienced pain of the right lung and thought of it only as trivial matter until Thursday night following when he became seriously ill and medical advice was sought. Heavy congestion of the right lung was present which soon reached acute inflammation. Saturday a.m. he seemed rather better, yet a very sick man. At 2 o'clock Sabbath morning, he passed into a heavy stupor, from which he could not be aroused, and at 6:15, the vital spark passed into the mysterious future. This death was sudden and unexpected.
Mr. F. was 70 years old and one of our best citizens. Plain, unassuming, a good neighbor, true friend, of steering integrity and a zealous Christian. Barring the bereavement of his family and relatives, the community will realize the loss of so estimable a man. The long procession following to Lodi (Malvern) was unmistakable evidence. The esteem in which he was held.
Remains were interred Lodi (Malvern) cemetery, Rev. Father Fladung officiating. Our friend and neighbor has closed his earthly career to enter into a life of eternal felicity which he so richly merits. May the peace of God abide with his bereaved companion and family.

Leopold Friedman, a substantial farmer and excellent Citizen of Brown Township, died at his farm home on Sunday morning last, aged about 70 years. His death was comparatively sudden, as he had been seriously ill only a brief time.
He was born in Germany but came to this country when a young man so long ago that he can be truthfully referred to as "an old settler". Though out his long life he was industrious, inoffensive and honest. He is the father of nine children-three of whom are by his second wife-nee Klise-who is his survivor. Three of the children live in Canton Mrs. Kate Hambach. Lena and Frank. Another daughter lives in Arkansas and still another in Pittsburgh, while four sons Messrs, George, Albert, will and John, remain at home. All his children were at the funeral except the daughter living in Arkansas. A brother living in Canada, another brother living in Cleveland, with his two children, and relatives from Buffalo, N.Y., attended the funeral. Mr. Friedman was attentive to his duties as a Catholic and died with the hope of a blessed immortality. The remains were interred Tuesday after requiem mass for the dead and had been celebrated by Father Fladung. All will remember kindly "Lapo" Friedman.
Date of newspaper Friday Jan. 22, 1897, Leopold Friedman, An old and respected citizen of Carroll Co., died Sunday morning, Jan. 10. He was a Native of Mise Atawine Baden, Germany. He was born Nov. 11, 1826. The funeral was held from his 9 o'clock a. m. The services were held at The St. Francis Xavier's Church. His death was a shock to the community on account of it being so sudden, he being sick only two days. He had a severe attack of lung fever. The neighbors were very kind in assisting at the residence after his death and funeral, for which the family are very thankful.
