Jane B. Wineland, 95, resident of Homewood at Martinsburg, passed away early Monday morning at Homewood.

She was born in Roaring Spring, daughter of the late Edwin and Margaret Bayle. She married Harold E. Wineland on June 1, 1940 at Bare Memorial Church of God, and Jane always remembered her engagement proposal by Harold that occurred when the couple was attending the Hollidaysburg premier of Gone with the Wind. He preceded her in death on April 25, 2010.

Surviving are a niece, Susan (Cohen) Myrick (husband, Dennis) of Glenshaw; special friends: Philip J. and Julie Waite of Roaring Spring and Jerry and Susan Stern of Martinsburg.

She was preceded in death by a sister June (Bayle) Cohen.

Jane was a 1939 graduate of Roaring Spring High School.

She was employed by the public assistance office in Altoona from 1939-1944 and also volunteered with the Red Cross and the USO in Altoona during World War II. Jane was then employed by Wineland Meat Market in Martinsburg from 1944 until 1954, when Harold and Jane then opened Wineland IGA Foodliner (the first IGA in Blair County). She operated the office until 1979 when it was leased and sold to John H. Waite. Following that time Jane still served as the office manager until 1986. She was a friend to all and was a great influence on many who worked at the IGA store for years, always encouraging them to do their best.

Jane was an active member of the Martinsburg Memorial Church of the Brethren and served as financial secretary for many years. She enjoyed serving the Lord through her volunteering at the church and civic clubs.

She was very active in her community during her life, serving as member and past president of the Martinsburg BPW Club and the Martinsburg Civic Club.

Jane was an avid Republican and supported the Republican Party. She loved golfing and helped organize the Ladies Golf Association at Iron Masters and was extremely instrumental in the establishment of the Iron Masters Country Club Restaurant, which she helped operate for many years.

Jane enjoyed traveling, gardening, golfing and spending time with her friends and loved ones.

Friends will be received from 4 until the 5pm funeral service, Sunday, December 13, 2015 at The Chapel at Homewood at Martinsburg, Pastor Philip J. Waite officiating. Private interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.

The family prefers memorial contributions be given to her church, Morrisons Cove Memorial Park, or the Central Cove FFA Chapter.

Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.

Gravesite Details

Obit states parents as Edwin and Margaret, but it's not correct. Should be John Bayle and Marietta Knipple
