Thomas Lynn 'Tom' Gerken
10 January 1947 - 24 December 2015

Thomas (Tom) Lynn Gerken, 68, formerly of Chanute, Kansas, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2015 at Freeman Hospital following an extended illness.

Tom was born January 10, 1947 in Iola, Kansas to the late Lewis Gerken and Vera Hollrah Gerken Hays.

He lived in the Chanute area until 1997 and was the General Manager of Chanute Grain and Seed.

Tom received his Bachelor’s Degree from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Joplin.

Tom is survived by a sister, Denise Geier and husband, Chris of Carl Junction; brothers, Barry Gerken and wife, Panny of Bolton, Massachusetts and Timothy Gerken and wife, Kathy of Columbia, Missouri; plus nieces, nephews and extended family.

A Memorial Service is planned for January 9, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Joplin, Missouri. Pastor Gregory Mech will officiate.

Burial of ashes will take place the same day in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Humboldt, Kansas at 2:30 pm, weather permitting.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church in care of the mortuary.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
