Ethel Jane Petersen, the daughter of Nels C. and Tina (Jensen) Nelsen was born on July 22, 1924 at rural Hardy, Nebraska. She entered her Heavenly home on December 29, 2015 at the age of 91 years, 5 months and 7 days.

Ethel Jane was baptized June 19, 1925 at Bethany Lutheran Church by Rev. J.C. Carlsen. She was confirmed May 28, 1939 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hardy by Rev. Frank S. Delo. Ethel Jane attended grade school and high school at Hardy, graduating with the class of 1941. She also had the honor of attending Girls’ State her junior year. Jane worked with Dr. Leigh in Hardy as a Dental assistant.

She was united in marriage to Hartley Petersen on June 9, 1946 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hardy. This union was blessed with 5 children. Jane was a member of Bethany Lutheran for over 60 years. She was known for accompanying various choirs, small groups, and soloists. It was not uncommon for Jane and Hart to stop their farm work in midday to attend a funeral as soloist/accompanist.

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church Women and Bethany Altar Guild. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and spending time in her vegetable and flower gardens. She loved working side by side with Hart on the farm. She delighted in her grandchildren, caring for and playing with them.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Hartley, in 2007, and her sisters, Ruth Braun and Fern Christiansen.

She is survived by her five children, Beverly Wemhoff and husband John of Platte Center, Nebraska, Roger Petersen of Hardy, Nebraska, Rosann Gettis and husband Tim of Hillsboro, Oregon, Arlo Petersen and wife Ava of Ruskin, Nebraska, and Wayne Petersen and wife DeeAnn of Nora, Nebraska. 15 grandchildren, Theresa Mitchell and husband Kenneth of Columbus, Nebraska, Brian Wemhoff and wife Mindy of Columbus, Nebraska, Barbara Johnson and husband Christopher of Platte Center, Nebraska, CM1 Paul Wemhoff of Pass Christian, Mississippi, Jessica Kohout and husband Nick of Clatonia, Nebraska, Derek Farnstrom and wife Christy of Hebron, Nebraska, Kyla Petersen of Lincoln, Nebraska, Paige Petersen of Lincoln, Nebraska, Gregory Gettis and wife Amy of Beaverton, Oregon, Alison Gettis of Hillsboro, Oregon, Eric Reinsch and wife Sidnee of Ruskin, Nebraska, Andrea Petersen and husband Bret Sleight of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Emily Petersen of Omaha, Nebraska, and Amanda and Daniel Petersen of Nora, Nebraska. 13 great-grandchildren, Dylan and Jane Johnson of Platte Center, Nebraska, Alyssa Wieser, Abbi McDonald, and Colton Wemhoff of Columbus, Nebraska, Mackenzie, Bailee, Caiden, and Amelia Gettis of Beaverton, Oregon, Hannah and Jacob Kohout of Clatonia, Nebraska, Riley Farnstrom of Hebron, Nebraska, and Wade Reinsch of Ruskin, Nebraska. Three sisters-in-law, Janette Lubkemann of Ankeny, Iowa, Bonita Bakker of Middleton, Wisconsin, and Marilyn Meyer and husband Marvin of Omaha, Nebraska. One brother-in-law, Lyle Petersen and wife Beverly of Blue Hill, Nebraska along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
