Lucy Ann Garrett Beard was born November 4, 1882 in Jackson, Butts County, Georgia to Peter Martin Garrett and Harriet Ann Elizabeth Maddox. She married Will William Beard on October 6, 1906 in Ouachita County, Arkansas. They had 5 daughters together. Eva Beard died as an infant. Mamie Beard who married Walter Culbertson, Amy Beard who married Aaron Holton, Sr., Louise Beard who married Clib Belt, and Sybil Beard who married Woodrow Lindsey. Will Beard died in 1941 from an accident and after his death, Lucy lived with her daughters at various stages of her life.
Peter Martin Garrett brought his wife and children to Arkansas by handcart. Lucy was just six years old. They crossed the Mississippi River by train and settled in Holly Springs, Arkansas, where her Father settled 325 acres.
