Obituary.
Dewitt Clinton Burkhart was born in Louisville, Ky., December 6, 1848, and died at his home near Terre Haute, Ill., May 11, 1920, age 71 years, 5 months and 5 days.
He was the oldest child of James and Rachel Burkhart, and came with his parents from Kentucky when a small boy to settle in Knox County, Missouri.
Mr. Burkhart was married to Jennie Burkhart December 23, 1868 [sic], and to them were born six children, three with the mother having preceded the father in death. The three remaining are: William, James and Lottie, all of Knox City. He was married again to Emma Miller in May, 1889 [sic]. To them one child was born, who with the mother also preceded the father in death. His third marriage was to Kitty Burkhart, and he is survived by this wife and four step-children: Willis of LaHarpe, Ill., Milton of Edina, Mo., and Mrs. Effa Ewing and Miss Lela at home; also one sister and three brothers: Mrs. Ed Seeger of Knox City, Mo.; Elijah of Rutledge, Mo.; Emmit of Watts, Calif. and Samuel of Corvallis, Mont. He also leaves eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Burkhart was converted and joined the Baptist Church at the age of 18 years, and remained in that faith until death.
Dearest father thou hast left us, and our loss we deeply feel, but 'twas God who has called thee from us, who can all our sorrows heal.
