Jay is fondly remembered for always making everyone laugh, his many hours of volunteer service, and his love of God and his family. He was born in Madera, Calif., to Martha and Harry Casterson. He was the third of six children and was raised in Campbell, Calif. After leaving the Army following World War II, he worked as a truck mechanic for Pacific Trucking Company, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. He married Evelyn Theiss in 1946 and they raised four children and enjoyed 30 years of marriage.
Jay is survived by his son, Jim Casterson (Chris) of Idaho; daughter, Judy Devine (Gary) of Modesto; daughter, Jeanette Guth (Jerry) of Sunnyvale; daughter, Joyce Leonard (Frank) of Ben Lomond; four grandchildren, Jason Cashman (Jennifer), Jeremy Casterson (Emma), Jessica Crabtree (Jason) and Jesse Casterson (Reba); four great-grandsons, Dylan, Rowan and Keenan Casterson and Aidan Crabtree; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, July 30, at 1 p.m., at Bethel Retirement Community, 2345 Scenic Drive in Modesto, in the second floor Activity Room. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA 95356.
