Funeral services were held in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel for Andrew Ward Jones, affectionately known as "A.W." or "Andy".

Interment followed in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Jones was born December 9, 1917 and died in Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston on Sunday, October 3, 2004.

He was a member of Central Baptist Church and a life-long resident of Livingston, leaving only to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of a pioneer family and was a farmer, rancher and businessman. He was a partner in J&J Cattle Company and had ranching operations in Polk and San Jacinto counties. His cattle were his life and he loved the land. Family and friends say all he knew was hard work and he expected hard work out of everyone else.

During school and after graduation from Livingston High School, he worked for the Texas Highway Department as a rodman and chainman and grew and sold vegetables at markets in the area. He butchered cattle for individuals and sold them also to various markets. He joined the army and served in the Pacific Theater as an airplane and engine mechanic during World War II and was very proud of his service to his country.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Howard "Charlie" Jones and his mother, Alma Sprott Jones; his brother and sister-in-law, Charles "Howard" and Mildred "Millie" Garretty Jones; and his great-great niece, Chelsea Anne Ross, all of Livingston.

Survivors include his niece, Patricia Jones Snook and husband, Jay, of Livingston; great-niece, Wendy Snook Ross and husband, Mack, of Livingston; great-nephew, Charles Kevin Snook and wife, Diana, of College Station; great-great niece, Taylor Anne Ross; and great-great nephew, William Cody Ross, both of Livingston; and a host of cousins and many close friends.
