James M. Cranfill, Jr., 76, Frankfort, died unexpectedly at 11:52 p.m. September 6, 2000, at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Mr. Cranfill attended school in Gaston. He moved to Frankfort in 1957. He worked as a custodian with the U.S. Postal Service and retired in 1984.
A former member of the VFW and the American Legion, he served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during World War II. He belonged to the Eagles Lodge in Frankfort.
He was born December 13, 1923, in Jackson, Michigan, to James M. and Margaret Modena (Gilmer) Cranfill Sr. On June 8, 1957, he married Katie Crutchfield, and she survives.
Other survivors are two sons, James M. III of Stroh and Barri M. of Camden; two daughters, Jackie Myers of Fort Wayne and Mrs. Mark (Terri) Calvin of Frankfort; a sister, Loretta Snider of Marion; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in Bunnell Cemetery.
